Position Summary:
Orleans Parish Criminal District Court is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Official Court Reporter in Section E, Judge Rhonda Goode-Douglas. A court reporter is responsible for creating a verbatim, accurate record of legal proceedings by using stenography equipment or digital recording devices to produce a complete transcript of depositions, trials, and other court hearings, ensuring judges, attorneys, and other parties have an official record of what transpired in court; this includes capturing witness testimony, identifying speakers, and indexing exhibits used during proceedings.

Education Requirements :
High School diploma or GED
Certified Court Reporter in the State of Louisiana

Experience Require ment:
Must possess a minimum of at least two (2) years of prime court reporting experience in a court, or in the freelance field of service or a combination thereof.

Knowledge, Skills and Ab ilities:
• High typing speed and accuracy: Court reporters need to be able to transcribe spoken words at a very high speed with minimal errors.
• Attention to detail: Ensuring every word spoken in court is accurately captured in the transcript.
• Stress management: Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced courtroom environment.
• Professionalism: Maintaining neutrality and impartiality throughout court proceedings.
• Legal terminology knowledge:
Understanding and accurately transcribing legal jargon and technical terms.

Functions and Responsibilities:
• Accurate transcription: Recording all spoken words during court proceedings using stenotype machines or digital recording devices, producing a word-for-word transcript.
• Speaker identification: Notating who is speaking during the proceedings to ensure clarity in the transcript.
• Exhibit indexing: Cataloging and time-stamping exhibits presented during the hearing.
• Technical proficiency: Maintaining and operating stenography equipment or digital recording devices.
• Administrative tasks: Managing billing for transcripts, maintaining records, responding to inquiries from attorneys and judges.
